The sitting welcome elephant is believed in some parts of India to bring joy and good luck to the host dwelling.
 
Our welcome elephant is made of wire mesh that is initially made into shape, then painstakinly filled with paper mache and sculptured to provide the detail that shows through the then applied wet leather covering. This leather is stretched and rubbed over it to bring out every detail that pertains to the specific animal, then stained brown, sundried, and buffed to a high sheen.
